Symptoms of a Brain Attack/Stroke
If you see or have one or more of the following symptoms, don't wait, call 911 right away!
- Sudden numbness or weakness of face, arm, or leg, especially on one side of the body.
- Sudden confusion or trouble speaking or understanding speech.
- Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes.
- Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, or loss of balance or coordination.
- Sudden severe headache with no known cause.
- Treatment can be more effective if given quickly. Every minute counts!

The 3 key questions in recognizing a Stroke
These simple questions will help any bystander in recognizing a potential stroke victim.
- 1. Ask the individual to SMILE.
- 2. Ask them to RAISE BOTH ARMS.
- 3. Ask them to SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE coherently, such as
"It is sunny out today."
If he or she has trouble with any of these tasks, call 911 immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher!
